ABOUT CORNISH COTTAGE  HOMESTEAD

Growing a gentle life, one season at a time

Welcome.
I’m so glad you’re here.

Cornish Cottage Homestead is a small corner of our life in rural Cornwall — a place shaped by seasons, children, muddy dogs, art supplies in the studio, and a garden that keeps trying its best in Cornish coastal weather.

It isn’t a glossy homestead or a perfect cottage dream.
It’s real life: school books mixed with seed packets, half-finished paintings drying in the studio, freshly-baked bread, and herbs hanging from hooks while the dogs run muddy circles around us.
It’s a home full of movement, distractions and constant change — and a place where I’m learning to grow gently through it all.

A LIFE LIVED CLOSE TO THE SEASONS

I’ve always found peace in the natural rhythm of the year:
the quiet of winter, the hopeful push of spring, the bright abundance of summer, and the soft gathering of autumn.

Following the seasons helps me focus, helps me breathe, and helps anchor a busy, interrupted life into something steady and meaningful.

Here on the homestead we grow:

  • vegetables for the table

  • herbs for cooking, teas and remedies

  • fruit from our trees

  • cut flowers for the house

  • new plants from cuttings and seeds

  • a little more peace each year

We cook what we grow, forage what the land and sea offers, and preserve what we can for the colder months. It’s simple, slow, and always evolving.

CREATIVITY AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING

Before life shifted to Cornwall, before homeschooling, before the endless practicalities of family living, I made art for a living — painting commissions, exhibiting in galleries, spending long days in quiet creative flow.

Life is different now. There are fewer long stretches of silence. Interruptions are constant. Focus doesn’t come easily. But the creativity never left.

Now it grows in new ways: in watercolour studies from the garden, charcoal sketches from the hedgerows, small paintings made in pockets of time, herbal illustrations, kitchen table craft, and handmade items that hold a sense of season and place.

Cornish Cottage Homestead is where I weave all those threads back together — slowly, gently, and without rushing.

HERBALISM & HOMECRAFT

I’m currently studying with Heartwood, deepening my understanding of herbs and plant medicine.
Herbs anchor our daily life: teas brewed throughout the day, simple salves, infused honeys and vinegars, seasonal remedies, and quiet moments spent learning their scents, shapes and stories.

Alongside herbal work, I make:

  • soaps scented with herbs and flowers

  • candles for winter evenings

  • simple natural crafts

  • handmade gifts from the garden and kitchen

These are small, grounding rituals that fit into the rhythms of a busy home.

THE CHAOS AND THE CHARM

This life is not serene.
It’s lived alongside four dogs, children learning at home, bookkeeping for our family business, endless meals, endless laundry, endless noise. Focus is a rare resource. Time is borrowed in handfuls.

And yet — this is what makes it worth documenting.

Because a homestead isn’t a quiet farm on a hilltop.
A homestead is a way of being — choosing to live with the seasons, even when life is full and messy and complicated.

Here is where I practice that.
Here is where I grow into it, one small act at a time.

WHY I SHARE

I don’t aim to influence, impress, or perfect anything.
I simply want to offer a quiet corner on the internet where life feels real, gentle, seasonal and human.

A place where someone else who’s juggling too much can feel:
“Oh. It’s okay to take things slowly. It’s okay to do small things. It’s okay to grow a life in tiny moments.”

Cornish Cottage Homestead is the record of that slow-growing life — the garden, the kitchen, the herbs, the art, the making, the seasons, and the imperfect beauty of it all.
